AACHEN (GERMANY), June 25, 2019 – In celebration of World Refrigeration Day (26 June 2019), Emerson (NYSE: EMR) is releasing a series of educational resources to raise awareness of the important role sustainable refrigeration and cooling technology plays in modern living.
An official sponsor of the inaugural event, Emerson joins HVAC and refrigeration professionals from around the world to highlight the significant role that cooling and refrigeration plays in society – from the preservation of food and medicine supply chains, to enabling sustainable cities and high-performance buildings.
The company is shining a spotlight on sustainable refrigeration in particular, as UN commitments and regulations across the globe mandate that food retailers and other organisations phase-down environmentally damaging hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) – a coolant used in the majority of today’s refrigeration systems – for more environmentally-friendly alternatives. Activity includes the launch of the first in a new series of videos on sustainable refrigeration in Europe, along with an educational webinar in partnership with the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) in the US.
“We are excited to take part in the first annual World Refrigeration Day,” said Eric Winandy, Director of Integrated Solutions, Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions. “The challenge of phasing-down HFCs and shifting to more sustainable refrigeration systems has been an important topic in Europe, and we hope this day helps spread awareness for the sustainable refrigeration options available. It is particularly important to food retailers who arguably rely the most on refrigeration to preserve our food supply.”
Video Series on Sustainable Refrigeration
Emerson has produced a new 4-part video series to help food retailers and other organisations understand the latest regulations and sustainable refrigeration systems available. The first installment of the educational series, “Why retailers need to switch to more sustainable refrigeration” is now live on Youtube.
Other topics covered by the video series includes how natural and low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants – such as Propane and CO2 – are ideal alternatives to HFCs; overview of the different sustainable refrigeration system architectures available; and refrigeration safety. They will be released over the coming months on the Emerson Commercial & Residential Solutions YouTube channel.
Webinar
In the US, Dr. Rajendran, vice president, System Innovation Center and Sustainability for Emerson Commercial and Residential Solutions, presents in a 90 minute webinar on the responsible use of refrigerants. Titled, “Refrigerants for Life: How Refrigerants Affect Modern Life” the ASHRAE webinar recording is available at https://bit.ly/2ZAWJKU. Rajendran is director of The Helix, Emerson’s research and innovation centre located on the University of Dayton’s campus. He represents Emerson in its communications with various policy and industry organizations, such as the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, among others.
