Peace of Mind
With our CO₂ scroll technology, we enable worry-free solutions tailored to your needs and ensure your peace of mind.
Since 1987, Emerson has been delivering innovative scroll technology to every corner of the world – making residential and commercial air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration solutions more efficient, powerful, and sustainable than ever. We are the scroll technology specialists and have been in the market for more than three decades. Copeland CO2 scroll technology is the latest chapter in this unique history of inventiveness.
Technology Proven a Million Times Over
Copeland developed the first scroll compressor in 1978. In 1986/87 Emerson bought the company Copeland and started the first scroll production site in the U.S. back in 1987. Within the next forty years, Emerson and its Copeland scroll technology became the global market leader. With more than 190 million products sold to date. We have now used this huge experience and all our knowledge to develop the latest technology for commercial refrigeration solutions: Copeland CO2 scroll technology.
That’s Our Purpose
We help our customers in the world’s most essential industries solve the biggest challenges of modern life. Every day, our global workforce fulfills our unified purpose: We drive innovation that makes the world healthier, safer, smarter, and more sustainable, which we put to work for you.

Making the Difference
When it comes to innovation, there is never an end. So, since decades we are inventing and developing game-changing technologies, solutions and products for the residential and commercial air conditioning, heat pump and refrigeration market. For us, “cooling” is a really hot topic. The result: In 2010, we developed and launched the first CO₂ refrigeration scroll compressor for subcritical applications. 2014, we qualified scroll compressors for LGWP A1 refrigerants (R448A, R449A, R450A, R513A) followed by the release for A2L refrigerants in 2016. In the same year the first Copeland propane scroll compressor for refrigeration and heating applications was introduced.
2021, we unleashed the latest proof of our inventiveness: the CO₂ refrigeration scroll compressor for transcritical applications with DVI technology. These are the most important milestones of our technology history:
- 1987: Scroll compressors for the residential air conditioning and heat pump market
- 1990: First light commercial scroll compressor for air conditioning
- 1992: Development of refrigeration scroll
- 1999: Vapor Injection for low temperature refrigeration
- 2010: First CO₂ refrigeration scroll compressor for subcritical applications.
- 2014: Scroll compressors qualified for LGWP A1 refrigerants
- 2016: Launch of Copeland™ scroll with R290 for refrigeration and residential heating
- 2016: Scroll compressor qualified for A2L refrigerants for refrigeration and air conditioning
- 2019: Launch of horizontal Copeland™ R290 scroll compressor for refrigeration applications
- 2021: CO₂ refrigeration scroll compressor for transcritical applications with DVI technology
- 2022: Launch of the Copeland low sound scroll compressor for residential heating
